Registered sex offender found with sexually explicit images of children on his cell phone, affidavit says

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Charleston County deputies arrested a 67-year-old man this week on several charges connected to improper communication with a child.

Officials with the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) said James Dantzler Romero was taken into custody on Tuesday and faces 10 charges of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor in the 3rd Degree.

Affidavits show deputies executed a search warrant on Romero’s North Charleston home after failing to provide an email address and not registering it with the sex offender registry.

His cell phone was taken to the sheriff’s office where it was downloaded. Romero had multiple files that contained visual representations of a minor engaging in sexual activity or appearing in states of sexually explicit nudity, the document revealed.

Romero was also arrested last week for a sex offender violation.

He was given a $250,000 surety bond.
