Woman accused of threatening Murrells Inlet church over missing speaker allegations

MURRELLS INLET, S.C. (WCBD) – A woman is facing charges after authorities said she threatened to shoot up a Murrells Inlet church.

The Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) was informed on Friday about threats against Greater Gordon Chapel AME Church on Old River Road.

A church member told deputies they were contacted by Marcell Bernette Bryant Renta on Wednesday with the threat in response to allegations that her children took a speaker, the sheriff’s office said.

Renta told investigators that she made the comment in jest.

Authorities obtained and executed a search warrant on her home and found multiple weapons including a Glock handgun with an illegal switch converting it to an automatic weapon.

The weapon was found under a mattress in a bedroom belonging to her son, Daniel Quardre Bryant.

Warrants for unlawful communication were served on Renta and affidavits are pending for unlawful possession of a machine gun for Bryant, the sheriff’s office said.

Both are being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center.

The incident remains under investigation.
