Man arrested after shooting at car during road rage incident on Ravenel Bridge: police

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD)- A 21-year-old man is facing charges after police say he fired a gun during a Saturday afternoon road rage incident on the Ravenel Bridge, striking a car.

Elijah Joseph Maestas was arrested Sunday and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to records from the Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD).

Authorities said Maestas was traveling northbound on the bridge around 3:20 p.m. when he allegedly pulled out a pistol and shot at another person’s vehicle.

The victim told police that they were traveling on the bridge and unintentionally cut another vehicle — a blue sedan — off, according to the report.

The report further states that the victim and a passenger in the sedan “put up the middle finger” to each other before continuing down the road. That’s when Maestas reportedly pulled out a gun and fired, hitting the victim’s back passenger door.

Maestas was granted a $150,000 bond but remains in the Al Cannon Detention Center as of Monday afternoon, according to jail records.

The investigation is ongoing.
