Colleton Co. Rice Festival prompts road closures

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office has announced road closures starting Thursday ahead of the Rice Festival this weekend.

The following road closures will be in effect

• Hampton Street between Jeffries and Memorial will be closed starting at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 25 and will remain closed until the end of the festival at 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 27.
• Jeffries Blvd will be closed from Ivanhoe Road (at South Jeffries) to Ireland Creek on Saturday, April 27 starting at 10 a.m. and will remain closed until the parade concludes.
• Additional road closures are expected on Saturday for the Rice Run (Klein Street, West Washington, Dowling Ave)

Deputies say there will be large crowds crossing Jeffries Blvd between Green Pond Hwy and Paul Street throughout the weekend. They ask that drivers utilize caution when traveling through the area and watch out for pedestrians in or near the roadway.
