Children were present during West Ashley drug transaction that ended in shooting: police

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Police arrested two people in connection with an April 15 shooting in the West Ashley area.

Officers with the Charleston Police Department (CPD) responded to Woodleaf Court around 2:45 a.m. after receiving multiple calls for gunshots in the area, along with a person yelling for help.

Arriving officers found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his leg.

Sgt. Chris Stinson, public information officer for Charleston PD, said the initial investigation found that the victim was shot during a drug transaction and noted that the suspects had multiple children in their car during the shooting.

Ronald Nunn, 41, and Melissa Ochrymowich, 34, both of Johns Island, were identified by detectives as the suspects.

Nunn is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and three counts of unlawful conduct toward a child. 

Ochrymowich is charged with attempted murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to violate controlled substance laws and three counts of unlawful conduct toward a child.

Both were booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.

Sgt. Stinson the children were placed into custody of the Department of Social Services. 

The investigation is ongoing.
