Video shows alleged drunk driver crash into patrol vehicle during Moncks Corner traffic stop, sheriff’s office says
BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – An allegedly intoxicated driver crashed into a marked patrol vehicle in Moncks Corner as deputies were arresting a separate impaired driver, the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies had initiated a traffic stop on a driver who was suspected of driving under the influence near the intersection of South Live Oak Drive and Wildwood Lane around 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
While deputies were standing near their patrol vehicle, officials with the sheriff’s office said a second impaired driver crashed into the vehicle.
Lauren Michelle Skinner, 32, of Moncks Corner, was arrested by the South Carolina Highway Patrol on charges of “transporting alcohol in a motor vehicle with a broken seal,” “driving under suspension – second offense,” and “driving under the influence – second offense.”
No deputies were injured in the crash.
“This could have ended with one of our deputies being killed,” said Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis. “People often don’t realize how quickly a normal traffic stop can turn into a life-threatening situation. Our deputies face this danger every day. Impaired driving is reckless, selfish, and puts everyone at risk — including those who protect our communities.”
Skinner was given a bond totaling $4,527.50.
