Coroner identifies man who slipped, drowned at Bushy Park Boat Landing

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A body that was recovered from a Goose Creek boat landing on Wednesday has been identified as a 61-year-old man from Bonneau.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office divers responded to the Bushy Park Road Landing around noon for reports of a drowning and pulled a body — identified as Dean Elsey Sr. — from the water.

A preliminary investigation by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources found that Elsey slipped and fell while docking his boat and suffered a head injury.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death, according to the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation is ongoing.
