Deputies find missing man in marsh by Mosquito Beach
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Deputies in Charleston County found a missing man after they spotted him crawling out of the marsh near Mosquito Beach on Tuesday.
68-year-old Frederick Jerome Gadsden had been missing for 48 hours when he was seen in the marsh before noon.
Gadsden’s family reported him missing on Sunday, and deputies began searching areas he was known to frequent. On Monday, deputies deployed K9 Winnie to seek him out, according to the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office.
Winnie tracked his scent to the marsh off Sol Legare Road, but Gadsden was still nowhere to be seen.
When authorities returned to the area on Tuesday, Lieutenant Danielle Randolph saw someone crawling out of the marsh behind an easement on McNeil Washington Road, the sheriff’s office said.
Law enforcement confirmed the individual was Gadsden and provided medical aid. Deputies said no foul play is suspected.
“Through the combined work of Lieutenant Danielle Randolph, Detective Michael Thompson, and the various units of the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, Mr. Gadsden was located safely and has been reunited with his family,” said Alexis Douglas, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
