Winnowing Way standoff suspect charged with kidnapping, domestic violence, police say

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities announced Wednesday charges against a man who barricaded himself inside a North Charleston residence.

William Belliveau, 34, is charged by the North Charleston Police Department with first-degree domestic violence and kidnapping following a standoff that happened around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday on Winnowing Way.

Authorities responded to the residence after 9-1-1 dispatchers received a call regarding an ongoing domestic violence situation. When officers arrived, Belliveau barricaded himself inside the home.

Police officials say a woman and child were able to safely escape from the house.

Belliveau was eventually taken into custody. He is being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center.
