Barricaded suspect surrenders to law enforcement in North Charleston

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Law enforcement in North Charleston responded to a barricaded suspect situation Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities received a 911 call made regarding a domestic violence situation on Winnowing Way around 12:15 p.m., according to Harve Jacobs, spokesperson for the North Charleston Police Department.

When officers arrived, a male suspect barricaded themselves inside the home. Police learned a woman and child had escaped the house safely. “They are both fine,” Jacobs said.

Initially, law enforcement made contact with the barricaded suspect by phone and waited him out for a little over three hours. Officers then introduced gas into the home, and the suspect came out and surrendered peacefully.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. An investigation into this incident is ongoing.

Several agencies assisted the North Charleston Police Department in response to the situation.
