6-year-old accidentally shot himself in Summerville parking lot, police say

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – A 6-year-old went to the hospital Tuesday night after accidentally shooting himself, according to the Summerville Police Department.

The incident occurred in a vehicle parked outside a strip mall on Old Trolley Road where the Pagoda is, Capt. Chris Hirsch with Summerville PD confirmed.

The boy accidentally shot himself in near the knee area and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

An investigation into the situation is ongoing, Hirsch said. No arrests have been made at this time.

Police did not say how the boy got ahold of the gun.
