1 arrested in deadly North Charleston auto-pedestrian crash
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. – A Saturday night crash in North Charleston claimed the life of a pedestrian.
Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to the area of Dorchester Road at Forest Hills Drive around 9:15 p.m. following reports of an auto vs. pedestrian collision. Upon arrival, they discovered that the male victim had succumbed to his injuries.
The driver involved, identified as 31-year-old Darius Akeeme Simmons, remained at the scene and was later arrested. Simmons faces charges of Driving Under Suspension (DUS) 3rd offense and Habitual Traffic Offender and has been booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center.
The investigation remains ongoing as the traffic unit and the coroner’s office work to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim.
