Section of Daniel Island road reopens after shut down for investigation

Update: The roadway has reopened. Officers deemed the suspicious package “safe.”

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Police have shut down a section of a Daniel Island roadway Monday night as they investigate a suspicious package.

River Landing Drive between Fairchild Street and Seven Farms Drive is closed while Charleston officers investigate a suspicious package on Island Park Drive, the department said through X.

The Charleston Police Department’s Explosive Device Team is on the scene, and law enforcement has evacuated the surrounding area, according to police.

Officials do not know when the road will reopen. Motorists are asked to avoid the area during the shutdown.
