Polls open for South Carolina House District 113 special primary election
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) — Voters in the North Charleston area will head to the polls Tuesday for a special primary election to fill a vacant seat in the South Carolina House.
Three women — Michelle Brandt, Kim Clark, and Courtney Waters — are seeking the Democratic nomination for House District 113, which covers much of North Charleston and a small portion of Summerville.
Whoever wins Tuesday’s primary is slated to run unopposed in a March 25 special election to replace former Democratic state Rep. Marvin Pendarvis, who resigned last September amid an investigation into his law practice.
Officials said Monday the primary contest would be held as scheduled despite the threat of winter weather. No changes to polling locations or hours are expected.
“We urge all voters to stay mindful of the weather and take necessary precautions when traveling to and from their polling location,” a Jan. 20 post from the Charleston County Board of Voter Registration and Elections stated. “Your safety and participation are both incredibly important to us. Thank you for making your voice heard and being a part of the electoral process.”
Eligible voters can cast a ballot in-person on Tuesday by visiting their assigned polling location.
Polls will be open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. To find your polling place, please click here.
Absentee ballots must be returned to the Charleston County elections headquarters by 7 p.m.
