Man caught with meth during Berkeley County traffic stop, deputies say

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A traffic stop in Berkeley County led to the discovery of methamphetamine and other drugs.

Deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling State Road and McLauren Avenue when they spotted a vehicle commit a moving violation.

During a traffic stop, a passenger in the back seat – later identified as Travis Strickland – attempted to exit the vehicle. He was ordered back inside, and the deputy called for assistance.

The sheriff’s office said a records check revealed that Strickland had an active warrant through the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services.

They said Strickland admitted to deputies he had marijuana and a glass pipe on him. During a search, deputies found 21 grams of marijuana and nearly 32 grams of methamphetamine.

Strickland was arrested on his outstanding warrant and charged with trafficking methamphetamine and simple possession of marijuana.

Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office records show Strickland has been arrested 11 times since 2015 on a range of charges including manufacturing methamphetamine, resisting arrest with assault on law enforcement, and fraudulent checks among others.
