“Good Night Lights” kicks off with emergency vehicle light show

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Lowcountry first responders gathered Tuesday night to spread cheer to patients at a local children’s hospital once again this holiday season.

All kinds of emergency vehicles gathered in front of MUSC’s Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital Tuesday night to simultaneously light up and brighten the sky in front of the patient’s rooms.

After the light show, patients were given a gift bag from the Charleston Police Department that included flashlights, goodies, and fun activities.

“Our focus is primarily on the kids, especially those housed in the hospital,” said Sgt. Ariel Polite with Charleston PD. “Nobody wants to be hospitalized during the holidays.”

The annual holiday tradition is part of “Good Night Lights,” a series of events meant to bring joy to Shawn Jenkins’s pediatric patients, their families, and care teams.

The second event will feature Santa flying in on a helicopter to visit those in the hospital on Dec. 12. To close out “Good Night Lights,” Santa will be hoisted up on a tower truck buck in front of the hospital to say “Good night!”
