1 in custody for deadly Summerville trail shooting that killed 54-year-old woman

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Deputies have a suspect in custody following a Tuesday night walking trail shooting that left one person dead and another injured.

Summerville Police initially reported they were assisting the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office with a shooting that occurred on the Sawmill Branch Walking Trail at 8:15 p.m. near the Newington Subdivision pool.

The Dorchester County Coroner’s Office said Lori Wind, 54, of Summerville was shot to death on the trail as she was walking with her husband. Wind was pronounced dead on the scene by the coroner at 10:20 p.m.

The sheriff’s office did not release the identity of the suspect but said the person is in custody for criminal charges concerning the shooting. There is no threat to the public, Lt. Chaz Easterlin said.

Multiple agencies, including the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources, are investigating the incident.

The agency said the injured individual was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Law enforcement does not believe additional arrests are expected regarding the incident.
