Berkeley County opening overflow parking for election headquarters due to record early voting turnout

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCBD)- With early voter turnout at a record high, Berkeley County will open overflow parking this week for voters who want to cast a ballot at the county headquarters.

Overflow parking will be available at the old KJ’s parking lot at Bilo Drive in Moncks Corner starting Thursday, October 24. A shuttle service will then transport voters to the Berkeley County Administration Building.

“Traffic will continue to be rerouted at the Administration Building to accommodate the increase in visitors,” officials said in a news release.

Officials reported 8,067 votes were cast throughout the county in the first two days of the early voting period, smashing the previous record.

Berkeley County is following a statewide trend of record-breaking early voting turnout. The South Carolina State Election Commission said 125,900 people cast their votes on October 21, smashing the one-day record previously set in 2022.

Early voting is available through Saturday, November 2 with the exception of Sunday, October 27.

Early voting locations are open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. A map of locations in the Lowcountry can be found in the News 2 voter guide.

Voters should be prepared for long wait times and are encouraged to bring water, an umbrella, and comfortable shoes.
