2 critically injured after moving truck flips, catches fire on I-95 in Colleton County

COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Two men were critically injured during a crash that involved a moving truck Monday night on I-95.

Colleton County Fire Rescue said the crash happened in the southbound lanes around 6:30 p.m. when the box-style truck left the roadway and struck several trees on the right shoulder.

The truck was heavily damaged and the front was ripped open, causing the full load of furniture and household goods to spill. It then rolled over on its side and caught fire.

Officials said the truck was consumed in flames when crews arrived. Part of the load and the surrounding woods were also on fire.

Witnesses told Colleton County Fire Rescue that the men were ejected from the truck during the crash. Both suffered critical, life-threatening injuries.

One of the men was airlifted to the trauma center at Trident Medical Center in North Charleston and the other was taken to the hospital by a rescue medic vehicle.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
