‘Limited’ impacts expected in the Lowcountry from Hurricane Milton

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Hurricane Milton is expected to have extreme impacts on the Florida Coast starting Wednesday, but the Lowcountry is anticipated to experience manageable effects.

Storm Team 2 forecasts showers, 40-45 mph wind gusts and coastal flooding.

Meteorologist Josh Marthers believes the main concern for the Lowcountry will be coastal flooding on Thursday afternoon.

“Our high tide in Charleston Harbor is going to come in about 8.2 feet, that’s going to be enough to give us about 1-2 feet of standing water along our coastline. Like what you would see during a Coastal Flood Warning type of event,” said Marthers.

A Tropical Storm Watch was issued for parts of South Carolina on Monday, indicating tropical storm-force winds are possible within the area within the next 48 hours.

The watch is active for Berkeley County, Charleston County, and coastal Colleton County. A storm surge watch is also active for coastal Colleton County.
