CCSO arrests Johns Island man in 2016 homicide
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested a Johns Island man on Thursday, October 3, 2024, in connection with a 2016 homicide.
David Mack, 35, was apprehended at Freshfields Village on Kiawah Island and is now facing charges of Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime. Mack is currently being held at the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center, and his bond hearing is scheduled for Friday, October 4.
Mack’s arrest is tied to the murder of Jason Arion, who was found dead in his home on Main Road, Johns Island, on January 21, 2016.
Arion’s mother called for a welfare check after not hearing from her son, and deputies discovered him with a fatal gunshot wound. During the initial investigation, detectives learned that Mack, a neighbor of Arion’s, had been the last person in contact with him and had mentioned plans to visit.
The case remained unsolved until July 2024, when an informant came forward. The informant revealed that Mack had confided in them about killing Arion and shared details that had not been publicly released, providing crucial information that led to Mack’s arrest.
Mack is expected to appear before a judge on Friday for his bond hearing.
