12 and 18 year old killed in Georgetown County crash with logging truck

GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Two people – ages 12 and 18 – were killed early Friday morning in a crash that involved a logging truck and passenger vehicle.

The crash happened on U.S. Highway 521 near Ten Acre Road, approximately two miles south of Andrews, just after 9 a.m.

Lance Cpl. Lena Butler with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the crash involved a 2017 Kia Sedona and a tractor-trailer. The northbound Kia and westbound truck collided.

Georgetown County Coroner Chase Ridgeway told News 2 that the driver of the Kia pulled out in front of the log truck, and the logging truck t-boned the vehicle.

Trooper Butler said the driver of that Kia was taken to a local hospital where they later died. The passenger died at the scene.

The driver of the logging truck was injured and taken to a hospital for treatment.

Coroner Ridgeway will release the names of the two victims when appropriate.
