DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – UPDATE: An evacuation notice has been issued for Dorchester County due to the Edisto River reaching its highest level since 1945.

The river is currently at 16.84 inches. For reference, a major flood stage is 15 inches, and the record currently sits at 17.5 inches.

This major flooding is predicted to inundate the entire floodplain from Canadys to Highway 17. This is expected to cause extensive damage to homes and cabins throughout the area, and most river access roads are likely to become impassable. Additionally, travel will be impeded as portions of major roadways, including Parkers Ferry Road, Camp Buddy Road, and Wire Road, may be closed to traffic.
