Emergency evacuation at Dorchester Paws due to Tropical Storm Debby

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – As Tropical Storm Debby approaches, Dorchester Paws is initiating an emergency evacuation of its campus, situated in a flood-prone area. The projected rainfall is expected to inundate the entire campus, including the dog kennels, making it unsafe for the animals to remain.

Evacuation efforts will commence at 10 a.m. on Sunday, August 4th. Dorchester Paws urgently needs community members to provide temporary shelter for the animals through Friday until it is safe for them to return.

How the Evacuation Will Work:

  1. Foster Application: Interested individuals must complete a foster application, linked below.
  2. Evacuation Day: Arrive at Dorchester Paws starting at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Inform a staff member about your home environment so they can match you with an appropriate animal.
  3. Animal and Supplies: A staff member will bring you the dog or cat along with any necessary supplies.

Dorchester Paws is calling on the community to consider giving a dog or cat temporary shelter during this critical time. Your help can make a significant difference in ensuring the safety and well-being of these animals.
