Gov. McMaster authorizes National Guard, emergency assistance resources to Florida

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) –  In a move to assist neighboring Florida in the face of Tropical Storm Debby, South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster has authorized the deployment of the South Carolina National Guard through Executive Order 2024-15.

The executive order, signed earlier today, places approximately 70 National Guard service members on state duty to support Florida’s emergency response efforts. This deployment includes 30 high-water vehicles and other critical resources necessary to aid in the storm’s anticipated impact.

The decision comes in response to a request from Florida authorities seeking additional support as Tropical Storm Debby approaches. The South Carolina National Guard will work alongside local and federal agencies in Florida to provide much-needed assistance in preparation and response efforts.

For any inquiries regarding the South Carolina National Guard’s deployment and activities in Florida, Major Karla Evans of the South Carolina National Guard is available for contact.
