School start dates: Lowcountry students head back to class in August
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – It may feel like summer has just begun for some, but the first bell of the new school year will soon ring for students across the Lowcountry.
Many districts will head back to class earlier for the 2024-25 school year because of year-round modified calendars – like Georgetown and Williamsburg counties which begin in three weeks.
The new school year begins for those two counties on Thursday, August 1.
Colleton County students go back to class on Monday, August 5.
Both districts in Dorchester County – Dorchester School Districts 2 and 4 – return on Thursday, August 8.
Charleston County schools will begin the new school year on Tuesday, August 13.
Students in Berkeley County will be the latest to head back to class. The first semester begins on Wednesday, August 14.
South Carolina’s annual tax-free weekend happens on Friday, August 2 through Sunday, August 4 to help parents and teachers prepare for the new school year.
Shoppers can purchase back-to-school essentials including computers, printers, school supplies, clothing, and even dorm room essentials during the 72 hours without paying the state’s 6% Sales Tax and any applicable local taxes.
