Dorchester County brings in outside contractor to help with storm debris removal

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Debris from last week’s storm will be collected from specific Dorchester County neighborhoods beginning on Tuesday.

A downburst caused significant damage in the Summerville, Ladson, and Goose Creek areas on the evening of June 10. Numerous trees were toppled amid winds ranging from 80 to 85 mph, and large hail dropped as storms moved across the area.

As cleanup continues in many of those communities, Dorchester County announced it has hired an outside contractor to assist with debris pickup in Quail Arbor 5, Quail Arbor, Irongate, Briarwood, Community Road, and Greenhurst.

Collection will begin on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and will operate seven days a week, likely for several weeks. Crews will not go from house to house, rather they will consolidate debris or pick up certain piles.

“Dorchester County appreciates the community’s cooperation and patience as we work to ensure a thorough and efficient cleanup,” said county leaders.

Dorchester County’s call center will remain open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. to help residents with concerns about the collection process. That number is 843-832-0393.
