Summerville neighborhood suffers damage during Monday storm

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – Residents who live in one Summerville neighborhood spent much of the day cleaning up debris and damage after a severe storm ripped through the area Monday night.

Multiple fallen and uprooted trees could be seen throughout the Quail Arbor subdivision. Many homes in the area also suffered damage, with trees falling on roofs and other property.

Byron Bethea, who lives in the area, described when he found out a tree fell during the storm.

“My neighbor called me and said your tree is on our house. I said what tree, he said no the big tree is on our house. And that was it. I came outside. It just stopped raining, and you see the result. It punched a hole in our roof and punched a hole in his roof, he’s got a bar out next to his swimming pool – it took that out.”

Dorchester County officials said there are many other areas with serious damage like Quail Harbor V, Greenhurst, Briarwood, Irongate, Miles Road/Gahagan, and Bonnie Lane.

The county’s damage assessment teams have been our in the community evaluating the storm’s impact. Residents are encouraged to report damage online.

Reporting will help the county assess the full extent of damage and allocate resources for recovery efforts.

Dorchester County’s call center will reopen Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. to help with storm recovery efforts. Residents can call 843-832-0393 for information regarding storm cleanup and to report damage if they cannot do so online.
