Man rescued from trench in Johns Island neighborhood

UPDATE: Chief Kunitzer said the man was freed from the trench around 4:20 p.m. and was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCBD) – A trench rescue is underway Wednesday afternoon in a Johns Island neighborhood.

St. John’s Fire District Chief Ryan Kunitzer told News 2 that a person was working in a trench when they became stuck about waist-deep in mud.

The incident happened in the Kiawah River neighborhood.

St. John’s Fire District (SJFD) and several other agencies are working on shoring the trench and getting the man pulled out of the mud.

The man is in stable condition.
