Gov. McMaster appoints Colleton County Clerk of Court who served for 20 years
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A new clerk of court has been appointed in Colleton County following the resignation of Rebecca Hill.
Governor Henry McMaster announced Tuesday that Patricia C. Grant will serve as clerk of court until an election is held to permanently fill the position or until a successor otherwise qualifies as provided by law.
Grant is a resident of Walterboro and served as Colleton County Clerk of Court for 20 years until her retirement in 2020.
According to state law, in the event of a vacancy in the office of a county clerk of court, the governor is authorized to appoint a suitable person, who shall be an elector of the county, to serve as clerk of court.
Hill announced her immediate resignation in late March saying she planned to spend more time with family. She found herself at the center of controversy following the Alex Murdaugh murder trial in which she was accused of tampering with the jury and plagiarizing portions of a book connected to the trial.
