Summerville man arrested for attempted child sex crimes

SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) — A Summerville man was recently arrested for attempting to solicit a minor for sex.

Jonathan Maxwell Elking, 37, was arrested Monday and is charged with one count of criminal solicitation of a minor and one count of attempted dissemination of obscene material to a person under the age of eighteen.

Investigators said Elking sent sexually explicit photos to a person he thought was a minor and attempted to solicit a minor for sex, the S.C. Attorney General’s Office announced.

Internet Crime Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and Mount Pleasant Police arrested Elking.

Elking was booked at the Al Cannon Detention Center and given a $10,000 bond for the criminal solicitation of a minor charge and a $25,000 bond for the obscene material charge, according to detention center records.

Elking is out on bond currently.

The SC Attorney General’s Office will prosecute this case.
