Man wanted for kidnapping, armed robbery in Mount Pleasant now in custody, police say

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – A man wanted for kidnapping and armed robbery has been taken into custody.

The Mount Pleasant Police Department was searching for 27-year-old Maximilian Krause following an incident that took place at the Red Roof Inn off Johnny Dodds Boulevard earlier this week.

Krause and another person, Loren Marie Ellis, were accused of kidnapping a victim and attempting to use their credit and debit cards around midnight Tuesday.

It happened after the victim allegedly went to the motel to meet someone they found on a dating app. During the meet-up, Krause came out of a bathroom with a gun pointed at the victim and then proceeded to tie her hands and feet with a phone cord, hair dryer cord, and a belt., according to an incident report.

The report said Krause attempted to use the victim’s credit and debit cards to make transactions for an Airbnb, Cash App, and to take money out of an ATM, but the credit card company flagged the transactions as fraud and locked the cards.

The pair eventually left and the victim was able to free herself and get to a phone to call 9-1-1.

Ellis was initially taken into custody without incident and the search continued for Krause.

In an update Thursday morning, Sgt. Ashley Croy with the Mount Pleasant Police Department said Krause was apprehended Wednesday night in the Columbia area.

Krause is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center on charges of armed robbery with a deadly weapon, kidnapping, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
