Driver dead after car strikes tree in Ladson neighborhood

LADSON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating a deadly crash that happened Wednesday night in Ladson.

Lance Cpl. Nick Pye with the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) said the driver of a 2006 Hyundai sedan was traveling on Monroe Road when the car ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree near Harrison Road.

Troopers say the crash happened around 9:14 p.m.

The victim will be identified by the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office when appropriate.

Neighbors told News 2 at the scene that the driver was found Thursday morning and was driving very fast.

“This car came through our field here and hit a tree,” said one neighbor. “I heard an officer say she was going very, very fast.”

“If she had gone a foot over, she’d have been in the water and still alive today,” added another neighbor.

The crash is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
