Juvenile accused in shooting outside Williamsburg County convenience store
KINGSTREE, S.C. (WCBD) – A juvenile has been arrested in connection with a deadly June 12 shooting at a Williamsburg County convenience store.
Deputies responded to Young’s Convenience Store on Hemingway Highway for a reported shooting. Once there, they found a vehicle in nearby woods with two gunshot victims.
Edith Chinethia Williams, 46, was initially charged with murder, attempted murder, two counts of unlawful conduct towards a child, and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Investigators said Williams drove her juvenile co-defendant to the convenience store with two other juveniles in the car. The co-defendant then used Williams’ car as a shield and fired at the victims several times. When the shooting happened, the two minors were in the backseat of the vehicle being used as a shield.
One of the victims died, the other was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
The juvenile, a 16-year-old, surrendered to deputies on Tuesday and was taken to the South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice.
