Worker killed in construction accident on I-26 near Weber Blvd. overpass
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A worker died last week following an accident at a construction site near I-26 eastbound in North Charleston.
Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to the scene under the Weber Boulevard overpass on the afternoon of June 16.
Once there, police learned that the victim was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition; however, the victim did not survive the accident.
A report from NCPD said a “skid steer” construction vehicle, being used by an operator, was clearing mud from a ditch when the vehicle backed up and ran the victim over.
That person was identified by the Charleston County Coroner’s Office as 58-year-old John Stowers from Summerville.
The incident is under investigation.
