Hearing scheduled for man accused in Sullivan’s Island car attack
CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A first court hearing is scheduled Friday for a man who authorities said attacked several people with a vehicle on Sullivan’s Island last month.
Justin Collin Adams is accused of intentionally hitting three people, including two children and a substitute teacher, with a vehicle outside Sunrise Presbyterian Church School on May 1.
Police said Adams first attacked his mother with a knife and then used her car to target a group of students who were at the church’s playground.
Affidavits provided by law enforcement said Adams “chased the children as they ran.”
He was caught following an hours-long manhunt on the island and faces three charges of attempted murder and five charges of assault and battery.
Adams is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center. Officials tell News 2 that Adams is not expected to be present during Friday’s hearing.
