Armed suspect captured by K-9 deputy in Dorchester County

DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) — A man accused of threatening to shoot another person during an argument was arrested Monday following a brief foot chase in Dorchester County.

Deputies responded to the 900 block of Parlor Drive in Ladson shortly after 9:30 p.m. in reference to reports of an armed person, according to the sheriff’s office.

The victim reportedly told authorities that the suspect — later identified as 19-year-old Michael Aaron Gadsden — fled the scene after the two got into a verbal altercation.

Deputies attempted to make contact with Gadsden in a traffic stop, but he ran from the vehicle, prompting an area-wide search.

A K-9 deputy eventually tracked Gadsden to a hiding spot underneath a vehicle at a nearby apartment complex, and he was taken into custody.

He is charged with pointing and presenting a firearm at a person, first-degree assault and battery, and possession of marijuana.
