SC Public Service Commission to hold ‘avoided cost’ hearing for Dominion Energy

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCBD) – The Public Service Commission of South Carolina has scheduled an “avoided cost” hearing for Dominion Energy South Carolina next month.

The commission will consider an application filed by Dominion Energy SC that requests approval of the utility company’s avoided cost methodologies and corresponding tariffs, re-approval of its unchanged standard offer, form contract power purchase agreements, and notice of commitment form.

According to the Public Service Commission of South Carolina, an avoided cost is the “marginal or incremental cost for the electric utility to produce one more unit of electricity to serve its customers and represents the maximum rate that a utility can pay for electricity from small, qualified, third-party generators whose primary energy source is renewable (hydro, solar, or wind), biomass, waste, or geothermal resources.”

The hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22.
