Children can receive free meals, snacks at these Charleston County library branches this summer

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A partnership in Charleston County will provide free meals and snacks to children during the summer break.

The Charleston County Public Library, Charleston County School District, and Lowcountry Food Bank are teaming up to provide meals and snacks at area branches between Monday, June 2, and Friday, August 8.

The program is offered to children ages 5-18 during the traditional summer vacation period.

Lunches are provided by CCSD’s Nutrition Services Department for distribution at nine Charleston County Library branches Monday through Friday. All meals will meet federal meal patterns and nutritional requirements.

Snacks or hot lunches will be provided by the Lowcountry Food Bank at three additional branches.

Officials say there is no eligibility process required to obtain free meals or snacks at the participating branches.

“At Charleston County Public Library, we believe that access to nutritious food is a key part of supporting lifelong learning and community well-being,” said Kathleen Montgomery, CCPL’s Associate Director of Community Engagement. “We’re proud to continue this vital work with CCSD and LFB to help ensure that no child goes hungry while school is out.”
