SC Rep. Wendell Gilliard reportedly stable after serious crash on I-26

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – A South Carolina representative was involved in a serious car crash on Interstate 26 Wednesday, according to a release from his office.

Rep. Wendell Gilliard was taken to a nearby hospital after the collision that happened on I-26 near exit 77. He is reportedly in stable condition but remains concerned for all the individuals involved, the release said.

“We are grateful for the swift response of first responders and medical personnel,” said a spokesperson for Rep. Gilliard’s office. “At this time, we ask for privacy as we gather more information. Updates will be provided as they become available.”

Officials are still investigating the collision to determine the circumstances.

Rep. Gilliard represents district 111 in Charleston County.
