Police investigating deadly shooting at West Ashley apartment complex

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Authorities are investigating an early Sunday morning shooting at a West Ashley apartment complex that left one person dead and two others injured.

Officers with the Charleston Police Department were on patrol near the Palmilla Apartments on Ashley River Road around 1 a.m. when they heard gunfire in the area.

The responding officers found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. They were taken to local hospitals; however, one of the victims did not survive.

Police believe the shooting stemmed from an altercation that took place within the apartment complex, and believe the individuals involved were known to each other.

An investigation is ongoing.
