Teen in Hanahan shooting was shot in self-defense, police say

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCBD) – Hanahan police said Thursday they will not file charges regarding the shooting death of an 18-year-old on Bowen Corner Avenue that happened earlier in the week.

Officers responded to the location at 8:59 p.m. Monday in reference to a shooting. When they arrived, they found a deceased person later identified as Tre’sean White.

After investigating further, officials believe White and Deonte Calden Trevon Lancit, 18, were conducting an armed robbery when the victim shot White in self-defense.

The Hanahan Police Department said they consulted with the Ninth Circuit Solicitor’s Office and decided no charges should be filed in connection with White’s death.

Lancit was charged with armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the situation.
