Krystal to open Walterboro restaurant in July

WALTERBORO, S.C. (WCBD) – A fast food chain best known for its small, square burgers – also known as sliders – is coming to the Walterboro area.

Krystal will open in the former Popeyes location on Bells Highway in July, according to a company spokesperson; however, an exact opening date has not been publicly announced.

This comes after radio personality and South Carolina native Charlamagne Tha God, whose real name is Lenard McKelvey, announced in 2022 that he and his wife Jessica Gadsden-McKelvey planned to bring the bite-sized burger chain back to the region.

“The Krystal restaurant brand is known for bringing quality ingredients and creativity to customers, and we are proud to be franchise owners and even prouder to be providing jobs for our folks by investing in our home state,” the pair said in a November 2022 statement.

Krystal has not operated in the Lowcountry in decades; however, the chain opened a store in Orangeburg last December with plans to expand its footprint over the next few years.

Krystal is also available in Gaffney and Aiken.
