Fire destroys Colleton County home; 2 firefighters were injured
COLLETON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A family was displaced Friday night after a fire destroyed their Colleton County home.
Crews with Colleton County Fire Rescue responded to the fire on Augusta Highway in the Springtown area around 10:23 p.m.
A family member told fire-rescue officials that she woke up to smoke and found the home was on fire. She then alerted two other family members and all three escaped.
“Crews worked for approximately 30 minutes to gain control of the fire, but were on the scene performing overhaul for five hours,” said fire-rescue officials.

One of the residents was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and then taken to Colleton Medical Center for additional care.
Two firefighters suffered injuries while fighting the flames. They were taken to the hospital for treatment and have since been released.
Officials said the fire appears to have started in the kitchen and spread to the attic. The cause is under investigation.
The family is receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
