Mother’s Day meets Second Sunday on King Street

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – Treat your mom to an afternoon filled with local vendors, delicious bites, and live music. This month’s Second Sunday falls on Mother’s Day.

Second Sunday closes about a half mile of King Street each month so people can stroll the street without vehicle traffic or parked vehicles from noon until 5 p.m.

“Guests see businesses they didn’t know about, stores roll out past the sidewalk to invite shoppers in, carefully curated artists show their work on the street, and unique food vendors tempt guests with their fare,” said organizers.

Happening this weekend, Under the Almond Tree will celebrate its eighth birthday with games, giveaways, drinks, and photo ops under the beautiful trees behind their shop at 190 King Street at Horlbeck Alley.

For the candle lovers, you can enjoy a “buy three, get one free” at Candlefish at Wentworth. Candlefish is a storefront and workshop known for its library of 100 signature scents.

Author Brian Livingston will greet readers and discuss his new book, ‘Folkston’, at the VIP tent in front of the Apple Store, and artist Kamis Mallula will bring her unique and sparkling Caddywampus Keepsakes to King this weekend.

Rain is in the forecast for Sunday. Organizers say the event will happen rain or shine, so bring an umbrella.

You can visit the Second Sunday website to learn more about this weekend’s vendors and to download a free parking voucher.
