Student found with loaded firearm at Berkeley County school

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A student was found with a loaded firearm at Sangaree Middle School.

A message from the school said that school administrators immediately identified the student and conducted a search to locate the weapon.

The loaded firearm was taken from the student without incident.

“We are following all procedures as outlined by the district’s policies and procedures to address this matter, and we are working in close collaboration with law enforcement,” the school said in its message to parents. “Your student is safe, and no student was harmed.”

The school said it takes all reports concerning safety seriously and asked parents to encourage their children to report any concerns they may have to a school staff member “so we can take appropriate steps to maintain a secure environment on our campus.”
