Mother charged in connection with child’s accidental shooting outside Summerville restaurant
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCBD) – The mother of a 6-year-old injured in an accidental shooting outside a Summerville restaurant in March has been arrested, according to police.
Officers with the Summerville Police Department responded to the Pagoda restaurant’s parking lot on March 11, where they learned a child was shot in the leg.
An investigation found that the child was left unattended inside a vehicle, along with two other juveniles, when he grabbed a gun from the glove box and accidentally shot himself.
The child’s mother, Tykesa Dixon, has been charged with three counts of unlawful conduct toward a child in connection with the shooting. Police said she left her three children unattended in the vehicle, which led to the accidental discharge of the firearm.
Dixon was apprehended Monday without incident by the U.S. Marshals Task Force and taken to the Dorchester County Detention Center, where she awaits a bond hearing.
