Bystander killed in shooting after physical altercation erupts in Hemingway parking lot
WILLIAMSBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A fight between several people in the parking lot of a Hemingway apartment complex led to the death of a bystander, according to authorities.
Deputies with the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office responded Saturday to a reported shooting on Daisy Lane at the Hemingway Apartments and found a person suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lot.
That person did not survive their injuries.
According to the sheriff’s office, an investigation into the shooting found that the victim happened to be in the apartment complex’s parking lot when a physical altercation occurred between several people.
After the fight, one of the involved individuals fired a gun, which struck the victims. Deputies said the victim was a bystander who was not involved in the altercation.
“The motive behind this incident remains undetermined at this time,” said Investigator Jalisa Brown, public information officer for the Williamsburg County Sheriff’s Office.
