Teenager dead following deputy-involved shooting in Berkeley County

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – A 17-year-old died following a Berkeley County deputy-involved shooting.

Berkeley County Coroner Darnell Hartwell identified the teenager as Tyren J. Kinloch, from Wando.

In a news release Wednesday, Coroner Hartwell said the teenager was brought to a local emergency room with “fatal injuries from a shooting that involved a Berkeley County sheriff’s deputy”.

He said an autopsy will be performed as required by law.

Deputies with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office were conducting an investigation Tuesday night that led to a traffic stop around Clements Ferry Road and Rivers Reach Drive.

Shots were fired during the stop, and the suspect was injured, according to the sheriff’s office. They were taken to a hospital, where it was later revealed that the suspect had died from their injuries.

No deputies were injured. Berkeley County Sheriff Duane Lewis has asked the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division to investigate.
