One land of Highway 17 in McClellanville closed from low visibility due to brush fire

Update: One northbound lane remains closed between South Santee Road and 7 Mile as crews continue to work, although deputies have been cleared from the scene.

Electronic signs are posted to warn drivers of the smoke and lane closure.

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) – Lanes on Highway 17 are closed Wednesday afternoon due to low visibility from a nearby brush fire.
 
The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office said one lane in each direction of Highway 17 near South Santee Road is closed.

Deputies and officials with the South Carolina Department of Transportation are helping to manage traffic while crews work to clear the area.

The sheriff’s office said drivers are encouraged to find an alternate route.
